Famvir® is a prescription oral antiviral medication that is indicated for the treatment of recurrent genital herpes to help prevent further outbreaks. It works by stopping the spread of the herpes virus in the body. Famvir is also used to treat herpes zoster (shingles).
Famvir® is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of recurrent episodes of genital herpes in immunocompetent adults. FAMVIR® is also used for the recurrent herpes simplex virus infections of the skin, genital herpes, cold sores, and mucus membranes (mouth, anus) in HIV-infected patients.
Side Effects
You may have some side effects from Famvir. They include stomach pain, tiredness, a rash, itching, painful menstrual periods, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or gas. You may have more serious side effects like numbness, tingling in the hands or feet, or burning pain. Please tell your doctor if you have these reactions.
