Experience…
I contracted herpes from my then fiancĂ©’. We were both medical students and knew of his contact with a herpes positive partner (four years prior). In the time that lapsed between his original contact with that partner and the contact with me he had
been tested several times (on at least 5 separate occasions) with negative results and no physiological signs every time. What I want to share is that no health care professional ever made him aware of the ability to be a carrier with no signs. In fact, when I then “turned up” with herpes we actually had a doctor who suggested that I must have cheated on him and brought it “home” (my then fiancĂ©’ in no way thought this possible as we had a totally trusting and monogamous relationship). After some knowledge seeking of our own we found out the truth. It amazes me to this day…the ignorance that is still out there!!
