Experience…
Found out that my fiancé had HSV2 some time after we began seeing each other, and felt lucky that I never seemed to have contracted the virus. What I thought were simple ingrown hairs or clogged sweat glands on my thighs turned out to be mild outbreaks of the virus.
I had been utterly symptom free for years, but recently had an outbreak-also on my thigh- that confirmed that I had indeed contracted the virus. I wish now that we had been better aware of the situation, and I have to deal with future possible relationships with the knowledge that I could be hurting someone during what should be close and intimate contact-even if I am being careful and not being active during any symptomatic outbreaks.
I also have to have the painful, albeit oddly so, responsibility of sharing this stigmatized information with anyone who I want to become involved with.
