I was diagnosed when I was 19. I couldn`t believe it and felt embarrassed and ashamed. I didn`t want to believe it for a long time. I had been having outbreaks since around 12, long before I ever had sexual experiences. Both of my parents have the same outbreaks as I have and my mother at the time told me they were from wearing too tight of jeans (since that is what her doctor told her when she was younger). I didn`t think anything of it at the time – I thought everyone had them. When I finally excepted it and talked to my doctor about it, she said that I could have contracted it as a child, if someone didn`t wash their hands when they changed my diaper or a number of other situations. I still don`t know how to deal with the fact that I feel like nobody is ever going to love me again. I`ve told a few friends and close family members, but I don`t know how someone will ever want to be with me again. [46919]
